Porcelain veneers
Thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of your teeth, designed to blend naturally with your own teeth.
What they are
A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain, custom made for a single tooth, bonded permanently to its front surface. Porcelain is used because it handles light the way enamel does, with a depth and translucency that composite cannot quite reach, and because it resists staining for years rather than months.
Veneers change shape, size, color and apparent alignment all at once, which is why they are the answer when several things about a smile bother you rather than one. They are also the reason the planning matters so much, because a set of veneers is a design decision as much as a clinical one.
Will they look like teeth?
This is the question underneath almost every veneer consultation and it deserves a direct answer. Veneers look artificial when they are all identical, when the shade is brighter than anything found in nature, and when the proportions are copied from a template rather than drawn from the face they are going into.
Real teeth are not identical to each other. They vary slightly in length and in the way they catch light, and the front two are not the same as the ones beside them.
Building that variation back in is what separates a set of veneers people notice from a set nobody does. It takes longer to plan and it is the entire difference in the result.

What actually happens
The first appointment
It starts with a conversation and an examination. We photograph your smile, talk about what you want changed, and check that the underlying teeth and gums are healthy enough, because veneers go on top of a sound foundation and never in place of one.
The design
Shape, length and shade are decided together, and you see the proposed result before any tooth is touched.
Preparation
A small amount of enamel is removed so the porcelain sits flush rather than bulking the tooth outward. You wear temporaries while the final set is made.
The fitting
We try the veneers in before they are bonded, so there is a point at which you can look in a mirror and say something is not right. Once they are bonded they are permanent, so that moment matters and we do not rush it.
What you should know before you commit
Preparing a tooth for a veneer removes enamel, and enamel does not grow back. That makes the decision permanent in a way that whitening and bonding are not, and it is the main reason we will steer you toward a smaller treatment when a smaller treatment will do.
Veneers last many years with good care, though they are not immortal and they can chip under enough force. If you grind your teeth, that has to be addressed first, usually with a night guard, or the same forces that wore your natural teeth will work on the porcelain. Whitening also has to happen before veneers rather than after, since porcelain does not lighten.
What veneers cost
Cost depends on how many teeth are involved, so a single veneer to correct one tooth and a full upper set are very different conversations. You will be given a written figure covering the whole treatment before anything begins, and we will talk through payment options at the same time rather than leaving it to the end.
Financing and insuranceQuestions we get asked
How long do veneers last?
Many years with good care. They are not immortal and they can chip under enough force, which is why grinding has to be addressed first.
Does it hurt?
Preparation is done under local anesthetic and most people describe it as comparable to having a filling. Sensitivity while wearing temporaries is common and short-lived.
How many will I need?
It depends on how far your smile shows when you smile fully, which is different for everyone. Some people need six, some need ten, and some need one.
Can I whiten my teeth afterwards?
No, and this matters. Porcelain does not lighten, so any whitening has to happen before the veneers are made rather than after.
What if I do not like them?
We try them in before they are bonded, so there is a point where you can look in a mirror and say something is not right. Once bonded they are permanent, so we do not rush that moment.
Are veneers reversible?
No. Preparing a tooth removes enamel and enamel does not grow back. That is the main reason we will steer you toward a smaller treatment when a smaller treatment will do.
